About Tutoring by Chris

Hello! I’m Chris (surprise!), and I’d like to help YOU with learning Math, Statistics, Accounting, and/or Microsoft Excel! (see the "Subjects I Tutor" section for more info)
I’ve been tutoring professionally (and virtually) since May of 2022.
I attended OU (Boomer!) and obtained a B.A. in Psychology in 2002; a Masters Graduate Certificate in Management Information Systems (MIS), and a Masters in Accountancy, both in 2015. I have had a lifelong love and fascination with mathematics and numbers.
I worked for a Big 4 Accounting firm for 3 years, and for the State of Oklahoma Department of Human Services (OKDHS) for 11 years before that. While in college, I took courses including Intro and Advanced Statistics (I was also a T.A. for Intro Stats for 1 semester), College Algebra and Linear Algebra, Managerial Economics, and various excel and database-related classes for my MIS certificate.
I spent most of my OKDHS career working with Aged, Blind, and Disabled clients (“ABD”), many of whom required additional assistance with completing applications and such. As a tutor, I have worked with a variety of students: older adults learning Excel or basic computer skills; students whose first language is not English; and many students with learning difficulties (ADHD, Autism, Dyslexia, Dyscalculia, etc.). I pride myself on my ability to adapt my instruction to a particular student’s needs to ensure they get the most out of each session.
I use a modified Socratic method when I’m working with a client: I use probing questions to help a student get to an answer by peeling back until we reach a layer where their understanding is already strong and build forward from there. If a student does not know the answer to any question, I prefer that they say so! The only way we can smooth out any concepts where understanding may be lacking is to identify those areas.
If you know someone struggling with any of these topics, I would love to help and share my knowledge and experience. Please feel free to message me with any questions you may have. Thank you!

I have experience with and am accepting students who need help with material from 7th grade through undergraduate college level.
I am open to, and have experience with, helping adult learners with these subjects as well. Email me now and let's disuss!
Sessions are personalized, one-on-one, and can be 30 minutes, 1 hour, or 1 and a half hours long.
In my experience, 1 hour is the ideal time, and is the default length.
However, if a student struggles with attention, 30 minutes may be the best option.
Each session can be used to work on whatever the sudent's needs require:
-
help with homework or projects
-
study for a test
-
help with general class work
-
for personal enrichment.
